Nate started writing this song in 2007 after binging on guitar weirdos like the great Mattias Eklundh and the psychotic John Petrucci, (particularly his tremolo work in the solo for Under a Glass Moon). Thematically, our protagonist's mind is transiting the spaces between panic over what's to come and the comfort of accepted inevitability. Zack took a bass solo here, and I recorded some exotic-sounding percussion. You might notice a wide variety of engineering approaches to the core drum recordings of each track on this album. Technophobia and Circus Noesis have the most in common, but no two tracks share an entire palette. For these two (as well as Cognitive Decay), a large portion of the drum sound is from a stereo pair of vintage Sennheiser shotgun mics underneath the drumset. The art here is an alteration of a picture of Zack's eye.
