The intro was inspired by a dream I had: "We're all on a bus that is careening through a rocky flat desert landscape. Nobody is talking, we're just looking out the windows. Who is driving? Maybe somebody, maybe nobody, but I know it is not any of the four of us. The bus is going too fast, but none of us are concerned."
The middle section is an ensemble of percussive elements that I recorded individually. The only carry-over from the drum kit is the kick drum. The snare I switched out for an old 70s Ludwige field snare. These two elements are in different time signatures that only rarely come together. They could probably be played at the same time by one person, but why bother? Zack and Nate created very tasty synths for this song, and if you listen closely at the beginning you can hear me play a slide guitar that Nate never liked.
