Usually what happens is Nate will write a song with the drum parts all worked out. Then, I'll write my own drum parts that steamroll right over everything he had planned, including the time signature. I like to force his odd meters into common time. I'm a man of the people! For this though, I really struggled to figure out how to make a polka sound more interesting rhythmically. He wanted me to stick to the traditional rhythm at the beginning while cutting loose everywhere else. To make those sections even sillier I time-aligned the slow polka sections, layering very short recordings of individual elements of the kit. There's an impossible drumkit pattern near in the outro. This is the only drumkit section on the album that I can't play, because it is physically impossible unless you get very creative with your ride cymbal setup.
